Youth and Substance Abuse

It's very alarming to know that the use of alcohol and other substance by students is very high (50 %). It's high time for the Bhutanese to study "WHY" our youths are engaging themselves in self-destroying habits. The dependency rate on these substances may be low right now as they are at that age of starting it but they are bound to become dependent on these substances as they age. Since they are the future, can you imagine a country with half its citizen dependent on substance? It's high time for the policy makers, NGOs, parents, educationist, and all relevant stakeholder to join force and prevent this. Just coming out with detective measures is not enough. We should have all preventive, detective and curative measures to this problem.  However, the first and the foremost thing that needs to be done is to understand "WHY" our youths are trying/consuming it? What makes them start it? Then only we can come up with measures to prevent it from happening.  http://www.kuenselonline.com/alcohol-and-substance-abuse-rampant-among-students/
